It's Hard to Dance with the Devil on your Back- So shake it out

I have a little miracle to share.

My first year of college I was obsessed with running. I ran 8 miles at least 3 times a week and I never got sick of it. I ran my half marathon in November and after that for some reason just stopped. After not running for months and months I decided to run a race hard up and down hills on concrete and totally messed up my knee, and it hurt to run so bad that I have not really ran since.

Coming to NZ I wanted to run again, but the more I ran the more it hurt and I almost resigned to leave it behind, BUT I am learning something really cool...I'm learning how to solve my own problems. Not just be okay with them, not to just ignore them, but FIX them!

I've talked to lots of people about my knee, I've been to the doctors and even a specialists but I never got much out of it. It wasn't until I decided that I can solve my own problems that my knee started to improve. I got on google and did some research. I think I have runners knee, which is common among runners, especially women.  It comes from overuse or injury. Also knee problems often come to people with high arches since they have less support. I went to the shoe store and bought shoe inserts to help with foot support, I started taking fish oil which helps with joint support and I have stopped running down any hills and I avoid concrete as much as I can, for now.

When I run on the beach I can't even feel any pain in my knee! I want to burst! It makes me so happy I just want to jump up and down and yell "I'm a runner again!!" over and over and over again.

My favorite beach to run on so far- Long Bay

  1. Keri, when I get there we should go running together. I was really good about running every day my freshman year but now I just haven't had time!
