Close call...

I LOVE running on the beach. I crave it. But the beach is about a 10 minute drive and just doesn't fit in my 45 minute morning workout schedule.

Quick note about New Zealand, or at least Albany- everything is a hill, and with my knee I have to walk down the hills and it drives me crazzyy to walk during my runs.

Out of my bedroom window I can see a small inlet of water and this morning I decided to find it. In my mind it was a hidden oasis and mini beach all to myself, yes please!!!

So here is the adventure. I walked down the massive hill, past the cemetery and around or when necessary over the fences. I felt very mischievous and could not tell if I was in someone's backyard or just no man's land, and as I got closer my heart was leaping! I thought I had found my own beach close to home! As I ran I was literally pumping my fists saying "yes! yes! yes!" as I make my own trail down towards the water.

I make my way through the brush and see this...

Yuck. I stand staring for a minute even considering still stepping down into the mush because I wanted it so bad, and as I look down... it gets worse. I FIND THIS!!!
I was practically standing in a pile of fish bones!!!! Obviously the water and probably air are fish eating and therefore flesh eating and I almost died!! Barely made it out of there alive!! I raced home and got a great work out and scrubbed myself down in the shower!!

Oh and also I saw a hedge hog in the backyard :)
